Hellfire discs began with the release of the Perfect End single which was recorded in the infamous Hellfire Club situated in a basement on Caernarvon Street Glasgow. Other notable artists who recorded singles there include:Aztec Camera, Altered Images, The Dreamboys (with Peter Capaldi), Orange juice, The Poems (Strawberry Switchblade), & The Shaking Pyramids. The single was engineered & produced by the Hellfire club owner Davie Henderson along with his partner at the time Jacqueline Bradley (Sophisticated Boom Boom & His latest Flame). Davie gave his permission for us to use the Hellfire name & so Hellfire Discs were born.
By the time of the second single the label was now recording at Berkley Street in Glasgow. Other bands recording & rehearsing at the same time included The Bluebells, The Big Dish, and The Primevals. Incidentally this also coincided with the demise of Perfect End due to a argument with the bands manager for refusing a support slot with The Bluebells. He is quoted as saying Perfect End support no one. He was right though as the band split almost immediately after this. The singer formed Happy The man whilst Guitarist & drummer formed Silent Command.
Silent Command enjoyed some minor success on the Glasgow scene also support slots with Marine Girls, Lord of the New Church, and Hanoi Rocks culminating in A&R interest from many larger labels but their split in 1985 due to internal fighting put paid to any success they may have had.
Hellfire Discs continued by supporting a young up & coming band Where’s Russell? An odd name for a band but the band they thought it an advertising ploy to get people interested by plastering the name everywhere they could. The label managed to secure some good support slots with the band with the likes of Shop Assistants and Hipsway. However just before the release of their debut single the singer up and left for employment in Barnet and so the band split.
Hellfire Discs went into hibernation for around 15 years after this but with the emergence of The Zimmers on the Glasgow scene the label financed a couple of releases by the band. In addition a few releases from the discs back catalogue and unreleased stuff has given the label some impetus again.
