“Little John Rocket may not become a household name in every street in Britain, but they will in the ones that matter! This band is an excavation of genius.”
Subba Cultcha arts magazine
Little John Rocket dwell within the healthy music scene of Glasgow . The 5-piece recently recorded tracks in The Doghouse with their producer, the revered artist Rico .
As well as Rico's critically acclaimed solo career he has written & released tracks with Gary Numan & Tricky . Currently his studio wizardry is sought after by bands such as The Cinematics . The alliance between Rico & Little John Rocket has forged a powerful mix of killer songs & fantastic production.
London based Subba Cultcha arts magazine reported, “ Little John Rocket have just recorded one of the most original sounding promos I have heard in a long long time! This is like a genre of music not yet invented .”
Little John Rocket's darker side, lyrics & electric live shows all come together to form a fresh, succinct modern rock band. When you listen, you are bombarded with intelligent adrenaline driven tracks. Their sound blends an arresting mix of full on chic-punk crisp rock anthems with tracks that are rammed full of melodrama in melody.
The buzz surrounding Little John Rocket has built to a level where they are picking up well-known admirers such as Andy Cairns from Therapy? who wrote, " Little John Rocket is great stuff , there's room for a new great band."
Jim Gellatly (Xfm Radio) said of the song ‘At An End' , “It's wonderfully dark pop/rock with a healthy nod towards early New Wave !"
Gill Mills ex Radio 1 spun Little John Rocket on one of iTunes most popular podcasts , choosing “At An End” as one of the ten best songs on the whole of MySpace that month!
The Barfly contacted the band & asked them to play , they took advantage of this invitation to debut as a band & reveal their new material, filling The Barfly in the process.
The press reported, “ Little John Rocket's twin guitar attack owes a great deal to snarling post-punk, while their menacing, authoritative vocals recall Joy Division .” The Skinny said, “Their intensity is startling in the intimate confines of The Barfly . At times a brutal re-imagining of metal & glam-rock. Both threatening & enchanting . These are the sure first steps of a band ready to expand their fan-base . LJR display a forthright confidence & a stage presence that is surprisingly strong for an unsigned band.”
Framingo, the freshest & hippest label in Glasgow courted Little John Rocket & a split single “At An End” with The Skuzzies' “Ice Cold” is due for release on the 10th Sept .
This will be followed by LJR's own release, also on Framingo, which will be produced by the one, & only Rico !
Promoter & music journalist Alan Baillie wrote, “At an End” is a lyrical attack of such acerbic, backbiting bile, it makes you wince. Musically, it threatens to be a dance track, then suddenly veers off into a punk, disco, pop, rock, world of it's own,re-inventing itself 50 times along the way!” So you music loving public out there…. Be prepared for a masterpiece!!
Little John Rocket were invited to play Club NME & had a great time with The Hoosiers.
After a hectic recording session in The Doghouse their second Framingo release will hit the streets around early April 2008. Produced once again by Rico the two tracks, Basement & Forget About Us are sure to cause a commotion. Listen to snippets on the left & make sure you are there for the launch!!!
