ANDREAS SCHWABE (1960-2010)
Sad news reached FRAMINGO shortly prior to the festive break of the sad passing of ANDREAS SCHWABE, drummer with FRAMINGO perennial favourites & label debutants PROJEKT KOTELETT. Andreas suffered head injuries following a tragic post-gig accident and sadly did not recover. Our thoughts and condolences go out to his partner, children, family and friends.
As well as being tub thumper with the KOTELETTS, Andreas was a fixture on the Hamburg Punk scene for nearly 30 years. He was still actively involved in numerous projects with the Koteletts as well as THE RAZORS where he was on axe duties. A memorial gig was held in HAMBURG's KUNST on 30th December to celebrate Andreas' life. As well as the KOTELETTS, The RAZORS, PHANTASTIX and NAPHALM joined the bill on what we are sure was a fitting tribute.

FRAMINGO was saddened to learn of the passing of a true comedy legend this week. Whilst SLADE, T.REX & Glam Rock may have formed the soundtrack of our early years, it was the comedy of NORMAN WISDOM & his contemporaries which we still hark back to when we cringe at the efforts of the modern crop of comedy wannabees. Slapstick & childlike may have been his style, but you couldn't beat a Saturday morning sat in front of the telly (black & white!) with tears of laughter rolling down yer cheeks at the antics of the hapless underdog PITKIN played by Wisdom in the likes of THE SQUARE PEG, FOLLOW A STAR, ON THE BEAT & many others. Classic comedy & wonderful memories.

DONKEYS ON THE RUN
After no little anticipation, DONKEYS, the latest in a long-line of Scottish produced cinematic masterpieces sees the light of day with its nationwide launch later this week at the Glasgow Film Theatre. Featuring the sounds of FRAMINGO stalwarts, the enigmatic Ayrshire based tunesmiths FOOLS CIRCLE, on the soundtrack, this movie is set to become a cult classic & has already got the critics shouting it's praises from the rooftops! In this bittersweet, tragicomic tale, the former hard drinking barrow boy (James Cosmo) learns of his impending death and realises it's time to make amends with his estranged family. Fear not , our friends south of Hadrian's Wall ! This is not the now familiar FRAMINGO tirade against the “performance” of our delusional footballing cousins managed by Mr Capello in this year's World Fooootballing fest on the African continent. (though last Saturday's display has left us all at THE TOWERS simply “GREEN” with envy!!)
Nay, it is the proud announcement that the, hotly anticipated, marvellous, movie, DONKEYS featuring three, yes 3, helpings of the ubiquitous FRAMINGO favourites FOOLS CIRCLE on the soundtrack, is having it's glitzy Premiere at this year's EDINBURGH INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL!
You may recall we broke the news of the Ayrshire quintet's inclusion in this eagerly awaited sequel to the critically acclaimed RED ROAD back in January'09 .Well, now that editing & post-production shenanigans have been brushed aside, this motion picture is now, 3,2,1 action, ready to go!
Brought to you by Scotland 's very own SIGMA FILMS, this moving picture show, filmed in GLASGOW, is the second in the Scots/Danish Advance Party collaboration which has already spawned ANDREA ARNOLD'S award winning RED ROAD. It tells the tale of a man trying to make amends for his misspent life. A black tragic-comedy, it stars the renowned JAMES COSMO with MARTIN COMPSTON & KATE DICKIE as well as a host of other top class modern thespians.

IT'S THE END OF THE WORLD (AS WE KNOW IT!)...MAYBE?
FRAMINGO have roused ourselves from our late-winter slumber/hibernation to the news that erstwhile “King of Pop”(sic) & alleged supporter of dubious sleeping arrangements, the now very deceased MI*CH**l J*CKS*N (err, ..Well, his “people”) have signed a trillion Dollar deal with the abhorrent S*N* RECORDS. This is sad news indeed on so many levels, not least of which being the clearest indication yet that “The Big Four” have clearly pinned their colours to the mast & cast off once & for all any pretension that they have the artistic development of their artists at heart! The late, & strangely still, lamented WACKO, surely has no material left in the locker which would justify such obscene investment..... and surely it is time to close his back catalogue in light of his dalliances with countless dubious activities? It is yet another reminder of the need, nay, REQUIREMENT to support independent artists & labels. Without such support, the end of artistic integrity, independence of thought &, let's be honest; FECKIN DECENT MUSIC is surely nigh?
FRAMINGO urge you to continue your support for Independent labels & to seek out the sounds you crave from these labels & independent shops the length & breadth of the country. After much debate, deliberation & copious consumption of alcohol on Friday night, THE results, as they say, are in! In true Reality Telly fashion, entries for the FRAMINGO VANILLE COMPETITION have all been counted, checked, verified & laughed at! As the dust settles after another legendary FRAMINGO soiree in our hostelry of choice, THE CANARVON BAR in Glasgow , FRAMINGO wish to convey our sincere apologies to the wonderful bar staff & clientele who were doubtless rendered dumbstruck as FRAMINGO commandeered the famed boozer's Jukebox. There is simply no excuse , other than the dangerous levels of alcohol partaken , which justifies inflicting a mixed bag of sounds on the occupants of the city centre hostelry. From CAMPAG VELOCET & SLADE to THE INSPIRAL CARPETS & Ayrshire's very own SYDNEY DEVINE , the surreal atmosphere made for a great night out for one & all ....we think?! FRAMINGO XXX

Alas, before you can say “Who the f*** is Mark Corcorrrrannn?” we find our favourites slipping down the table faster than Tony BLIAR creeping out the confessional at his local chapel! RECESSION ENDS ....WHAT RECESSION?
Yup! It seems the credit crunchie thingy which has kept us all entertained over the last 18 months is now a thing of the past! Well, according to the twonks that got us into it, it is! So all is well with the world it seems... Sadly, the apparent waves of euphoria sweeping through the banking fraternity have not yet hit THE TOWERS! Whilst our last epic WELCOME TO FRAMINGOLAND has virtually sold out in CD format , the level of downloads has been more than a tad disappointing. For a small, non- profit making label like ours, this sadly restricts our ability to invest in new talent & curbs our stated aim to enhance your lives with fresh, vibrant sounds from the country's finest up & coming bands. We continue to support all our existing acts & trust that you too will continue with your ever welcome patronage. Our shop remains open for business for CD & vinyl sales & the bulk of our back catalogue is available for download via the usual suspects. Whilst we are more than happy to receive your demos & My-Space links to new bands & tracks, present circumstances mean that we will be unable to release new material for the time being. Let us take you back a few weeks, pre- THE BIG FREEZE, pre- Partick Thistle relegation woes & definitely pre-TONY bLIAR Iraq inquiry ....to the onset of December, if you will! As you may recall, our old mucker MARK SLOSS was in town to promote his stunning movie VANILLE as part of the UK -wide FRENCH FILM FESTIVAL. The entire FRAMINGO family & friends, together with members of LITTLE JOHN ROCKET & their fans, attended for this little soiree. Given the tragic events surrounding the untimely passing of SILVER, it was a subdued but nonetheless poignant evening, particularly for the LJR crew who made it along. There was a healthy turnout at the GFT to witness this thought provoking short brought to life by the LJR epic BASEMENT. All were agreed that the stunning visuals were superbly enhanced by the outstanding soundtrack, a combination rendering VANILLE a must see for all those who revere the Glaswegian sound smiths! And for those of you not fortunate to catch the movie during December, fear not! For your old pals at FRAMINGO will be giving one of our lucky punters a chance to get their mitts on a rare copy of this masterpiece!!

SILVER
As you will be aware from the recent entry by LITTLE JOHN ROCKET on these here pages, SILVER , guitarist and song smith extraordinaire with the ubiquitous Glaswegian quintet, sadly passed away at the end of 2009 . There is little FRAMINGO can add to the words expressed previously by LJR. Suffice to say that SILVER was always a pleasure to work with. His enthusiasm for the band and their music and, more importantly , the camaraderie he shared with the guys in the band , ensures his memory will endure for all those who knew him. Our thoughts and condolences go out to all family and friends .

HANDS UP, BABY HANDS UP!!
In the week that FRAMINGO welcomes our friends from FRANCE to these shores with the long awaited FRENCH FILM FESTIVAL, much amusement has been enjoyed here at The Towers surrounding the furore over the handball incident at last week's WORLD CUP Qualifier in gay Paris. Given the exploits of a certain JOE JORDAN at Anfield some 31 years ago to secure SCOTLAND's qualification for ARGENTINA '78 (ask yer parents!!) it seems to us a tad trite to castigate Mr Henry. Suffice to say, we at FRAMINGO will be extending the HAND of friendship to our friends from the AULD ALLIANCE when they arrive in GLASGOW on 1st December for the screening of VANILLE, featuring our very own LITTLE JOHN ROCKET! The whole FRAMINGO crew will be there hob-nobbing it with the good and the great of the movie industry ...well, MR SLOSS at least!

Strange but exciting times indeed up here at THE TOWERS! Never let it be said FRAMINGO doesn't attract excitement & diversity in bucketloads! What other label out there can boast connections with both the legendary French cinematic icon JACQUES TATI &, perhaps the greatest British songwriter of his generation, PETER DOHERTY? We suspect that the answer to that question is unquestionably in the negative! As you will be aware, LJR feature on the soundtrack of VANILLE which is showing nationwide as part of the FRENCH FILM FESTIVAL over the next month, sharing the billing with some of TATI's masterpieces......check our previous article for all the exciting details. We've got our penguin suits off to the cleaners in readiness for the big night .
